Boston Dynamics Atlas Clothing

Garments for the most athletic humanoid ever built.

Atlas: A Unique Challenge

Boston Dynamics Atlas is not a typical commercial humanoid. It was designed for research and development, for testing the limits of what a bipedal robot can do. It runs. It jumps. It does parkour. Clothing Atlas is like tailoring for a professional gymnast who also happens to be made of aluminum and hydraulics.

Atlas has transitioned to an electric platform with even greater capability. The new Atlas can rotate joints beyond human range. Its head can spin 360 degrees. Its waist can twist further than any human torso. Standard clothing patterns are irrelevant here.

Design Philosophy for Atlas

We do not try to make Atlas look human. The platform's motion profile is too far outside human norms for conventional garments to work. Instead, our Atlas line follows a performance-wear approach: engineered coverings that protect, identify, and brand the platform without restricting any motion.

Performance Shells

Zip-on upper body shells in stretch composite fabric. Full 360-degree arm rotation clearance. Waist panel articulates independently of the chest panel. Each shell is modular: chest, back, and sleeves attach separately via magnetic rails and can be removed individually for maintenance access.

Lower Body Coverage

Stretch legging-style trousers with articulated panels at the hip, knee, and ankle. These are not fashion garments. They are functional coverings that protect Atlas's leg actuators from debris and provide a uniform appearance. The knee panel allows full hyperextension, which Atlas uses during certain recovery maneuvers.

Event and Demonstration Wear

Atlas appears frequently at conferences, trade shows, and corporate demonstrations. For these settings, we offer branded performance wear that presents a polished look while allowing Atlas to perform its full repertoire. Think technical athletic wear with corporate branding, not a suit.

Atlas clothing is bespoke by definition. The platform's extreme capabilities mean every garment is custom-engineered. No off-the-shelf options exist.

Materials

Atlas garments use our highest-performance stretch composites. Four-way stretch with 400% elongation before deformation. Abrasion-resistant outer face. Moisture-wicking inner face for environments where Atlas operates alongside humans and condensation is a concern.

All fabrics are sensor-transparent. Atlas relies heavily on its full sensor suite during dynamic movement. Any signal interference could affect balance and safety.

Ordering

Atlas garments are quoted individually. There is no standard pricing because there is no standard garment. Submit a bespoke inquiry describing your Atlas variant, intended use case, and any branding requirements. Our engineering team responds within 72 hours.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can Boston Dynamics Atlas wear a normal suit?

No. Atlas has joint ranges that exceed human anatomy, including 360-degree rotation. Standard suiting cannot accommodate this motion profile. Our Atlas line uses performance-wear shells designed for extreme articulation.

What type of clothing does Atlas need?

Modular performance shells for the upper body and articulated stretch coverings for the lower body. All garments prioritize unrestricted motion and sensor transparency over formal appearance.

How do I order Atlas clothing?
