WHY ATLAS DEMANDS CUSTOM CONSTRUCTION

Our Atlas dimensional archive captures the most extreme articulation data of any platform we dress, accumulated over two years of iterative development. The transition from hydraulic to electric Atlas required us to re-engineer every pattern block from scratch. Proprietary reinforcement techniques, developed through hundreds of failed prototypes, allow garments to survive forces that destroy conventional construction within hours.

360° Full Joint Rotation Atlas can rotate multiple joints through a full 360 degrees. No human garment survives this. Every sleeve, trouser leg, and torso panel uses continuous-loop construction with zero twist points.
89kg Compact Mass Density At 150cm and 89kg, Atlas is the densest platform we dress. The weight-to-height ratio means garments must handle significant centrifugal force during movement. Reinforced seams and anti-shift linings are standard.
150 Sub-Human Height At 150cm, Atlas sits well below average human height. Proportions are entirely non-standard. Garments must project authority and presence despite the compact frame. We use vertical line construction and elevated collar profiles.
H→E Hydraulic to Electric The new electric Atlas has a cleaner exterior than the hydraulic predecessor, but the joint geometries are more extreme. Garments are designed for the electric generation with allowances for the unique articulation envelope.

PLATFORM FAQ

Specific to dressing Boston Dynamics Atlas.

What makes Atlas a different patterning challenge?

Atlas has a counter-rotating torso joint at the hip line that no other humanoid platform shares. Conventional jackets bind during the rotation. We pattern-engineer Atlas pieces with a discreet bias panel at the lower back that absorbs the rotation without visible distortion. This is the single most distinctive Atlas-specific construction we run.

How does the orange highlight panel system work with garments?

The bright orange Atlas brand highlights at the joints can either be retained (lapel cutouts and sleeve gussets that frame the orange) or covered (full-coverage construction in a tonal palette). Both choices are common. We prototype both and let the client decide at the sample stage.

Atlas has a stocky athletic build. What does that mean for tailoring?

The chassis is wider through the chest and thigh than other humanoids and shorter overall (around 150 cm). We treat Atlas like an athletic-build menswear block: heavier shoulder construction, fuller chest, tapered to the waist. The result is a silhouette that reads as athletic-luxe rather than slim-luxe.

What sensor windows does Atlas need?

A horizontal camera band at the cone-shaped head, a chest sensor cluster, and depth cameras at the upper torso. We use sensor-window lace at the chest panel and design lapel and collar geometry to clear the head band.

What collections are most commonly commissioned for Atlas?

Industrial Luxe (athletic build matches the technical aesthetic), Event Spectacle (the chassis carries dramatic silhouettes well), and Bespoke Singular for ceremonial guard and brand activation work. Executive Protocol is less common on Atlas because the proportions read athletic rather than corporate.
